History of Karashidane
2002/07 |
We started to construct a ‘Facility for the Social Reintegration of People with Mental Disabilities.’ Plans were being materialized in the eastern Kyoto region (Yamashina Ward, Higashiyama Ward, and the Daigo area of Fushimi Ward), and discussions with Kyoto City was initiated. |

Supporters and advocates gradually gather. |
2003/03 |
At the Kyoto City Council’s plenary session, a supplementary budget for the project plan was decided. |
2003/06 |
First inaugural meeting for the establishment of the Social Welfare Corporation, Mission Karashidane, was held. |

Despite efforts to seek understanding from the residents, no progress was made. |
2003/12 |
Ultimately, without gaining the understanding of the residents, the initial plan was abandoned. (We vowed to rework the plan and make a fresh start. |
2004/04 |
The cancellation of the plan was reported in the Kyoto Newspaper. |
2004/05 |
We secured land in Kanshuji, Yamashina (current location), within the same welfare zone. Discussions began with Kyoto City to establish a combined facility for a Support Center and a Vocational Support Center for People with Mental Disabilities. Preparations moved forward to launch the project in 2005. |
2004/06 |
Started a study group surrounding Dr. Nobuo Kudo (Emeritus Professor at Heian Jogakuin University, Psychiatrist), held at a monthly pace until March 2005. |
2004/06 |
The 1st. Karashidane Concert was held. |
2005/03 |
The Kyoto City Council approves the budget for the project plan. |
2005/05 |
The 2nd. Karashidane Concert was held in commemoration of the completion of the charity CD “Metanoia.” The second inaugural meeting for the establishment of the Social Welfare Corporation “Mission Karashidane” was convened. |
2005/07 |
Goverment support indication and Welfare and Medical Institution loan selection were confirmed. |
2005/08 |
Approval for the establishment of a social welfare corporation. |
2005/10 |
Construction begins on the Karashidane Building. |
2006/05 |
Completion of the Karashidane Building. |
2006/06 |
Two activities were stated: ‘Karashidane Center for Supporting Community Living of People with Mental Disabilities’ and ‘Karashidane Works – a Vocational Support Center for People with Mental Disabilities’. |
2006/10 |
Karashidane Center transitioned to a new system based on the Disability Independence Act and changed its name to ‘Kyoto City Eastern Mental Disability Community Living Support Center – Karashidane Center’. The center initiated ‘Consultation Support’ and ‘Community Activity Support Center’ services. |
2011/04 |
Karashidane Works transitioned to a system in accordance with the ‘Act on Support for Persons with Disabilities’ and was designated as a ‘Type B Continued Employment Support Facility. |
2012/04 |
Karashidane Center was designated as a ‘Specified Consultation Support Facility (Plan Consultation Support)’. |
2013/04 |
Karashidane Center received a deemed designation as the ‘Designated General Consultation Support Facility (Community Transition & Settlement Support)’. |
2014/04 |
‘Karashidane Center’ became a support center for three types of disabilities and changed its name to ‘Kyoto City Eastern Disability Community Living Support Center – Karashidane Center’. |
2015/04 |
‘Karashidane Works’ was reorganized into a multifunctional type of Continuous Employment Support Type A & B. |
2021/01 |
CLC Karashidane Bookstore started its operations, and the attached Café Triangle began its service as a book café from March 2021. |
